A Guide to Redfall’s Vampires, Cultists & More

Redfall Standard Edition Box Front

Redfall

Redfall is a dangerous place.

There’s only a handful of people you can rely on, and a plethora of those you definitely can’t. You’ve already met the heroes of Redfall. In this guide, it’s time to meet the enemy. From the bloodsuckers ruling the island to the human cultists who worship them and the mercenaries patrolling the streets, we have all the info you need to bring Redfall back from the brink of destruction.

The Vampires

Redfall’s streets are crawling with vampires. Once human, these immortal creatures of the night were turned by Aevum Therapeutic’s experimental so-called therapies. Vampires are driven to drink blood, which lets them achieve an altered state of consciousness called “the blood trance.” These vampires are fast, can levitate, have mastered teleportation and bullets alone can’t kill them. Stake them, blast them with UV light or use your special hero abilities to put them down permanently.

After their transformation, some of the vampires develop powerful abilities and become specialized vampires. As you move up the hierarchy from the standard “minions,” you’ll find hulking vampires with the physical strength to rip your squad to shreds, watchful vampires that serve as a sort of alarm system for their cohorts, and even more devious breeds of bloodsuckers…

Siphon

These vampires are the ones you’ll see levitating and maintaining unwavering eye contact. They don’t need to get close to you to suck your blood; if they can see you, they can drain you. Get behind cover or duck around a corner to break their line of sight. Siphons will also drain nearby cultists and Bloodbags to recover their health.

Angler

You’ll know this vampire by her gravity-defying hair and luminescent eyes, which might be the only thing you see before she kills you. With the ability to become invisible, Anglers shoot a deadly harpoon to drag their prey to them. If that harpoon manages to snag you, it could be the end for you, unless you manage to untether by shooting or having your teammate shoot you free.

Watcher

Watchers search the darkness with their spotlight-like eyes. If you happen to get caught in their line of sight, they’ll alert every vampire and cultist in the area to your presence, making you an easy target. And their eyes aren’t just searchlights. A Watcher’s eyes can sear you with devastating bursts of energy. Get rid of Watchers quickly or avoid them entirely so they don’t reveal your location or ruin your team’s well-laid plans.

Shroud

The Shroud summons a dome of darkness to surround and disorient you. Then she’ll attack from a distance while her allies attempt to overwhelm you. The Shroud can also disappear underground, playing a particularly dangerous (and wildly unfair) game of cat-and-mouse—she loves to play with her food.

Sin-Eater

A Sin-Eater is a cultist chosen to carry the burden of a vampire god’s “sins” and memories. Killing a Sin-Eater releases a psychic echo of a moment in the vampire gods’ dark pasts that you can watch. These echoes reveal the vulnerabilities of the vampire gods that you should use to your advantage.

Bloodbag

These repulsive creatures were once cultists who aspired to be vampires. Instead, the vampires transformed these cultists into beasts covered in blood sacs. While Bloodbags believe they are more than just a meal, the vampires feed off them to regenerate health with no regard for the Bloogbag’s well-being. Bloodbags will explode when they’ve taken enough of a beating, so attack from a distance to avoid the splash damage.

The Rook

We’re sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Rook, exceeded in power only by the Vampire Gods, can find you and your teammates anywhere on the map. Completing mission objectives and killing vampires infuriates the Vampire Gods, and the ace up their sleeves is the Rook. As you play, a meter will advance until it triggers a Rook attack, accompanied by a lethal storm. The Rook’s immense physical power combined with his ability to call down bolts of lightning make it impossible to escape the Rook—it’s kill or be killed. As a bonus for surviving and killing it, the Rook drops legendary gear.

The Gods

Of course, when you have a clear hierarchy of power, there has to be something at the top, right? All the way at the top of the vampiric food chain are the beings responsible for blocking out the sun, pushing back the tides and much more: The vampire gods – The Hollow Man, Bloody Tom, Miss Whisper and The Black Sun. Each one has a weakness, but you’ll have to dig through their histories and uncover the mysteries surrounding their creation to discover those weaknesses and use them against the vampire gods.

The Cultists

For each of the Vampire Gods, there is a group of dangerous, groveling humans who worship them. After all, joining a Vampire God’s cult is one way to protect yourself from the vampires (sort of), if you’re willing to sell out your friends and family. Check out this breakdown of the different types of cultists you’ll face off against.

Bullhorn Cultist

The Bullhorn Cultists are the ones in charge. The loud ones. The ones you can hear from a distance threatening the people of Redfall and spouting vampire propaganda. Similar to the Watcher, if they see you, Bullhorn Cultists will sound the alarm for their allies in the area. Take them out quickly so they can’t draw unwanted attention your way.

Assault Cultist

The Assault Cultists are dangerous, not because they’re great at shooting (they’re not nearly as skilled as the Bellwether operatives on the island), but because their assault rifles fire at such a high rate that they’re bound to hit you if you’re out in the open. Don’t underestimate these cultists and keep behind cover when you spot them.

Shotgun Cultist

Shotgun Cultists will do their best to get up close and personal, and their shotguns are dangerous from a short distance. If you do manage to keep them at bay, Shotgun Cultists can throw jars of Death Mist, but if you hit them at just the right time, they may drop them on themselves.

Hunter Cultist

Unlike the Shotgun Cultist, the Hunter Cultist prefers to shoot from a distance with a scavenged hunting rifle. You can spot them by looking for the light that glints off the scope of their rifle.

Bellwether Protection Services (BPS)

Bellwether Protection Services, despite it’s friendly-sounding name, is a Private Military Company that was deployed to Redfall for unknown reasons. Not even Jacob Boyer, a former Bellwether sniper sent to Redfall with the rest of Bellwether, knows why the company was sent to the island. Whatever their mission, the Bellwether operators are highly competent and armed to the gills. Thankfully, they’re not just on the island to take you out. They also seem to really hate the vampires and cultists, and if you’re clever enough, you can turn the two groups on each other to distract them from what you’re up to.

Assault Operator

The Bellwether Assault Operator is a dangerous, highly trained killer and needs to be taken out quickly. They are equipped with assault rifles and flash grenades that disorient and damage their enemies. That includes you.

Engineer Operator

The Bellwether Engineer Operator is armed with a semi-automatic shotgun, but that’s not all. To make a fight more difficult, Engineer Operators can also place up to three autonomous “Cobra” Combat turrets. Stay low, because these turrets will fire on you when you enter their field of view. You might also want to stay back; the “Cobra” turrets explode when damaged, harming anyone – friend or foe – who is too close. Turn these turrets on your enemies by hacking them with rewire kits.

Sniper Operator

It’s always smart to scout a little before rushing in, especially if Bellwether is in the area. You never know when they might have a sniper posted up somewhere. You might not see them at first, because the Sniper Operator’s only tell is the red beam from the laser targeting of their semi-automatic sniper rifles. Avoid landing squarely in their sights and maybe try to take them off the board quickly with your own rifle.
