DOOM Eternal Wins Big at Gamescom
DOOM® Eternal
At gamescom, DOOM Eternal won Best Action Game, topping a tough field of competitors.
During the convention, fans became the Slayer and razed Hell. The feedback was fantastic, with many fans queuing multiple times to fight for Earth and experience everything they could in the demo.
Raze Hell & Save the World
With over 370,000 visitors every year, gamescom in Cologne is the largest gaming convention in the world. To celebrate the Year of DOOM, our booth was all about DOOM Eternal. For the second time in Europe, fans could play through the tutorial and take their first steps in the game.
Like the Slayer, we opted this year to focus on saving the Earth. Instead of handing out merchandise, we pledged to plant 0.666m² (7.17sqft) of forest for every person who played DOOM Eternal at our booth. Fans really loved fighting for our world – both in the game and in reality. Because of the extremely positive feedback, we expanded this initiative on the final day, pledging to plant an additional 250 m² per 666 social media interactions. You supported us with more than 16,650 interactions across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram! We’ll now plant over 10,000 m² (107,639sqft) of forest near Nuremberg, Germany – that’s the size of two football fields! First pictures will follow soon.

Watch our daily vlogs to get a good impression of the booth and all our activities.
Stream with Bethesda
To bring gamescom into your home, we brought the Twitch MainStream studio along with us. Guests included influencers such as Saftiges Gnu, Eskimo Callboy, and Pandorya, as well as developers Emil Pagliarulo (Bethesda Game Studios), Andreas Öjerfors (MachineGames), and Matt Firor & Rich Lambert (both ZeniMax Online Studios).

You can re-watch the VOD here. Please note that only the developer interviews were held in English.
On top of our MainStream studio, there was a community studio where influencers could stream our games on their channels. During the convention, 24 streamers broadcast from Gamescom and played DOOM (2016), Fallout 76, RAGE 2, Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls Online and several other games.
Celebrating our community
In addition to everything at the convention, we hosted two off-site meet-and-greets for our community during the week:
The Fallout Camp opened its (Vault) doors on Thursday evening, with around 110 guests attending. The cosplay group Raptobot provided lot of props including a full vault door. After a video message from Emil Pagliarulo, fans had the chance to compete in Nuclear Winter and to produce their own keychains and Vault Boy masks.

The ESO Tavern took place on Saturday evening. Four hundred guests joined ZOS developers Matt Firor, Rich Lambert, Mike Finnigan, and Rob Garrett to spend an evening chatting about their favorite game while enjoying food and drinks. We celebrated our community and the recent release of the DLC Scalebreaker with a presentation and the exclusive showing of the Scalebreaker Gameplay trailer. Our fans enjoyed a full night meeting guild members and developers, getting henna tattoos of the Elsweyr log, eating a very special cake, and much more. We’ll be back next year!

Check out this video to experience the fun of the ESO Tavern.
Gamescom was a blast and we’re looking forward to seeing you again next year!
