Bluetooth & Nail: Pair wireless controllers for DOOM (1993) & DOOM II on mobile!

Hell’s armies wait for no one, and neither does DOOMGuy!

Thanks to our re-releases of DOOM (1993) and DOOM II for mobile devices, you can get your slay on whenever the mood strikes – even if you’re away from the big screen. Making it even sweeter, you can pair a Bluetooth controller to play DOOM (1993) & DOOM II on mobile devices!

For those who prefer grasping a gamepad while battling demons, the latest re-releases of classic DOOM titles on mobile also boast controller support! If your iOS device supports iOS 13/iPadOS 13 or later or your Android device is Android 9 (Pie) or later, you can pair select models of Bluetooth-enabled controllers for another way to play!

Step 1: Choose your controller

Just about every model of Sony DualShock 4 controller used with PlayStation 4 consoles are compatible, along with later versions of Xbox wireless controllers.

Generally speaking, Xbox One controllers manufactured before the release of the Xbox One S are not Bluetooth-compatible. One way to check is the design of the controller’s face – if the Xbox logo on the controller is encased in the same plastic section as the bumpers/triggers, it is not Bluetooth supported.

Models with the Xbox logo embedded on the same plastic plate as the rest of the controller’s buttons, however, are supported. (You can also check the model number inside the battery compartment – models labeled ‘1708’ or later should support Bluetooth.)

Step 2: Rip & Pair

From there, all that’s left is to pair your compatible Bluetooth controller to your mobile device, boot up DOOM (1993) or DOOM II and go to town! Here’s how to connect your controller to your mobile device:

Pair your DualShock 4 controller via Bluetooth (iOS/iPadOS 13+)

• Ensure your DualShock 4 controller is charged.
• Go to the ‘Settings’ application on your device and select ‘Bluetooth’
• Hold down the SHARE and PlayStation (Home) button simultaneously until you see the controller’s light display flash.
• On your device, select ‘DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller’ to pair the controller!

Pair your Xbox Wireless Controller via Bluetooth (iOS/iPadOS 13+)

• Ensure your Xbox One controller is charged.
• Go to the ‘Settings’ application on your device and select ‘Bluetooth’
• Turn on the Xbox One controller. If the controller is paired with another device, hold down the sync button on the back near the LB button for few seconds until the Xbox logo begins flashing to initiate pairing.
• On your device, select ‘Xbox Wireless Controller’ to pair the controller. (You may get a pop-up asking to pair automatically – if so, press ‘Pair’!)

Pair your DualShock 4 controller via Bluetooth (Android 9+)

• Ensure your DualShock 4 controller is charged.
• Go to the ‘Settings’ application on your device, select ‘Connections’ -> ‘Bluetooth’
• Hold down the SHARE and PlayStation (Home) button simultaneously until you see the controller’s light display flash.
• On your device, select ‘Wireless Controller’ to pair the controller!

Pair your Xbox One controller via Bluetooth (Android 9+)

• Ensure your Xbox One controller is charged.
• Go to the ‘Settings’ application on your device, select ‘Connections’ -> ‘Bluetooth’
• Turn on the Xbox One controller. If the controller is paired with another device, hold down the sync button on the back near the LB button for few seconds until the Xbox logo begins flashing to initiate pairing.
• On your device, select ‘Xbox Wireless Controller’ to pair the controller. (You may get a pop-up asking to pair automatically – if so, press ‘OK’!)
