DOOM (2016)

Choosing a favorite demon from DOOM is like choosing a favorite child.

They can be challenging, generally incomprehensible and vicious at times, but each is special and you can’t help but love them all equally.

Nevertheless, we’ve assembled a list of the five biggest, baddest, and/or simply best that the legions of Hell have to offer. Got a personal favorite? Let us know your favorites in the comments below!

1. THE BARON OF HELL

Picture the traditional concept of the literal devil - horns, hooves and all. Now, send it to the gym every day for a millennium or so until it gets super-swole. Once you’re there, you’ve got a pretty good concept of the Baron of Hell.

This muscular monstrosity isn’t just big, fierce and ill-tempered. It’s also among the toughest enemies in DOOM history – and the first time it was ever seen, it brought a friend.

That’s right: Players who managed to fight their way to the very end of the very first DOOM episode, Knee-Deep in the Dead, found themselves face to face with not one, but two of these devastating creatures.

Years later, DOOM (2016) took one of Hell’s strongest soldiers and gave them significantly more speed. And strength. And the ability to leap long distances in a single bound. Oh, and they still tend to show up in pairs. Now that’s commitment.

The Baron of Hell strikes a terrifying balance between demonkind’s best traits – fearsome, tough as nails and won’t rest until you’re dead – without delving into boss fight territory. When it comes to the demonic masses, the Baron stands tall, guaranteeing you’re about to be in for the fight of your life. If that doesn’t make it worth a spot atop this list, nothing would.
