Ghostwire: Tokyo
An Intro to Ghostwire: Tokyo's Paranormal Players
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo kicks off with nearly all of Tokyo’s population disappearing in an instant during a spiritual cataclysm.
However, that doesn’t mean players are all alone in the city. The area is still populated by a number of entities that you’ll encounter on your journey.
Just who all is out there in the streets of supernatural Tokyo? Check out this brief on some of the principal players in Ghostwire: Tokyo:
IZUKI AKITO
Our protagonist and player character. Akito was just a normal college student in Tokyo before the mass vanishing pulls him into a world of supernatural conspiracy. Now, as one of the last surviving humans in the city, Akito might just be the last hope Tokyo has for restoring the balance between the underworld and the mortal realm!
KK

Akito’s spiritual ally and seasoned paranormal investigator. A ghost without a body, KK can sync with Akito to perform Ethereal Weaving and other special abilities. While both Akito and KK are set on stopping Hannya and saving the city, it seems KK has some prior history with Hannya and is pursuing an agenda all his own…
Across Tokyo, Akito can find KK’s Investigation Notes, which not only net you a few points to spend on new skills, but also reveal cases KK tracked while he was alive. Check these notes to learn more about Ghostwire’s world and get a leg up on your Visitor foes.
IZUKI MARI

Akito’s 17-year-old younger sister. Following an incident involving a fire in their apartment, Mari lies hospitalized in a coma at Shibuya Central Hospital. Caught between life and death, she draws the attention of Hannya, who plans on using her to complete his mysterious objective. With the help of his begrudging ghost pal, KK, Akito may be able to save Mari – and all of Tokyo in the process!
HANNYA & THE FACELESS

Hannya and his masked Faceless allies take responsibility for Tokyo’s mass vanishing, though it’s unclear what their motivations or endgame are. Hannya’s mask, inspired by those worn in traditional Noh plays, displays different expressions based on the viewer’s perspective, giving us a glimpse to his conflicted worldview – he seems justified in his actions, but to what end? By disturbing the barriers between life and death, one thing is for certain: if Akito and KK can’t put a stop to Hannya’s schemes, Tokyo itself could soon be ripped apart from reality!
KK’S INVESTIGATION TEAM
While he was alive, KK was part of a rag-tag group of paranormal investigators tasked with keeping Tokyo safe from spiritual threats. Thankfully, some of the team survived the vanishing and can assist Akito in various ways. Rinko, currently leading the group, offers support from her headquarters as she searches for her missing friend Erika. Tech wizard Ed will also assist you in depositing lost souls you rescue using his Spirit Transmission Device, cleverly embedded in payphones found all over the city.

YOKAI
While Visitors – beings made manifest from negative emotions – tend to be hostile, yokai are actively neutral and can be quite friendly if you court their favor.

Born from long-standing folklore, yokai can range from flying Tengu that allow Akito to grapple atop Tokyo’s roofs to the Nekomata - feline shopkeepers that will reward you handsomely for finding special Relics across the city. Be sure to check out our Visitor & Yokai Guide feature for more information on some of Tokyo’s newfound residents you’ll come across during your adventure!
