DOOM by the Numbers #8 – For Glory!
DOOM® Eternal
*Numbers and data sound boring at first, but a franchise like DOOM has accrued some really interesting stats over the years.
In this series, we highlight DOOM’s cool numerical accomplishments and what they mean – this is DOOM by the Numbers!*

“Just two?,” you may ask. “What’s so significant about the number two?” Well, while not a massive integer, consider that this is the average number of seconds it takes for the DOOM Slayer to rend a demon to compost with his bare hands. Suddenly, “just two?” becomes “Just. Two.”
Specifically, we’re talking about the Glory Kills performed by the Slayer in DOOM (2016). Two seconds was our rounded average time we arrived at from clocking a sample group of the Slayer’s close-range finishers across multiple demon types.
Obviously, some outliers were removed. For example, Glory Kills of bosses or executions with the Chainsaw are comparatively longer to let you savor the victory, so we didn’t count them. Speaking of which, the type of demon that the gets offed does matter – a small fry like the Imp or Possessed Soldier only take the Slayer about 1.6 seconds on average to Glory Kill.
Meanwhile, larger or more complex enemies like the Revenant and Baron of Hell took about 2.1-2.3 seconds on average to rip and tear so when talking about Hell’s army in general, we decided to just keep it at a nice round two seconds. Keeping Glory Kills short and sweet doesn’t just help with DOOM’s combat flow - it also speaks volumes about the DOOM Slayer’s drive, power and sheer lack of hesitation.
The Slayer can not only rip a zombie’s arm off and decapitate them with it but does it faster than you can say ‘carefully crushed cacodemon craniums.’ Oh, and that’s not counting when the Slayer has the Savagery rune equipped, which allows him to perform Glory Kills even faster.
