DOOM (2016)

Let’s get something out of the way right up front: id Software is back – and back in a very big way.

Not that the storied studio actually went anywhere. The team that pioneered and popularized the first-person shooter with titles like the original DOOM, Wolfenstein 3D and Quake, has been putting out top-quality, innovative, and high-adrenaline games since the studio was founded way back in 1991. But with the new DOOM, id Software is both returning to the core of what made this famous franchise so furiously fun… while delivering something that can only be considered a new-gen shooter fully optimized for the latest generation of consoles and PC. Take a look at DOOM in action to see what we’re talking about.

Put simply, DOOM is about three things: movement, guns and demons. The game is built around “push-forward” combat: fast and relentless; no standing around and no cowering behind cover. You are a lone DOOM marine on Mars with one objective: to destroy demons from hell, using (among other weapons) fan-favorite demon-destroyers like the Super Shotgun, the chainsaw and, of course, the BFG. Finish demons with brutal kill moves, which not only deliver an intensely gory demise to your foes but also reward you with extra health and ammo. The game also includes full multiplayer and an intuitive content creation tool called SnapMap. To get the full rundown of everything you need to know about DOOM, check out Executive Producer Marty Stratton’s presentation at Bethesda’s E3 2015 Showcase.

Indeed, DOOM is unlike today’s cover-based shooters, delivering a totally unique and utterly exhilarating experience. Be warned: this game isn’t a cakewalk, so you better be ready to bring your A-game. How, exactly, will DOOM test your skills? Get the inside details straight from the development team in this candid chat about DOOM’s gameplay.

DOOM will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2016. We’ll have all kinds of exclusive features and videos in the coming months, so stay tuned to BethesdaNet for all the latest about DOOM!
