DOOM® Eternal
Behind the music of DOOM (2016) with Mick Gordon, Part 2
DOOM® Eternal
DOOM (2016) is set amongst both the rugged, scarred landscapes of Hell and the scientifically advanced compounds of the Union Aerospace Corporation.
It’s a contrast of fire and stone against polished metal and circuitry. How do you capture those distinct worlds in one soundtrack? You corrupt ‘pure’ analog sound with synthetic techniques to create a hellish blend of DOOMified music.
Previously, we shared a behind-the-scenes video from 2016 featuring DOOM Eternal’s composer, Mick Gordon. In the video, he shared the influences behind the sound that eventually became DOOM (2016)’s original soundtrack.
In this second half of the series, Mick reveals a little more of the nitty-gritty that went into the raw, energetic sound of DOOM (2016) – including utilizing actual raw energy. If you’re a huge fan of tracks likes “BFG Division” but never saw this video when it original debuted, you owe it to yourself to check it out:
You can see from Mick’s unconventional process and equipment how DOOM (2016)’s soundtrack managed to stand out when it first released. It also explains how the brutal, hellish riffs that fuel the DOOM Slayer get such their unique sound. As always, we urge you check out the full soundtrack, posted below. Not only will it give your day-to-day a Praetor-sized injection of oomph, but it also hypes us up for what Mick’s got up his sleeve for DOOM Eternal.
