5 Tips to Survive The Elder Scrolls Online: Deadlands from ESO’s Zone Lead

It might come as no surprise to discover that the Deadlands is a dangerous place, one filled with all-manner of Daedric creatures loyal to Mehrunes Dagon and ready to defend his realm at all costs.

In addition to the menacing Daedra that call it home, the Deadlands zone itself is a fiery wasteland, a horrifying reflection of the Daedric Prince’s own nature and menace.

To help you make your way into this dangerous world and conclude your Gates of Oblivion adventure, we asked Tom Murphy, ZeniMax Online Studios’ Zone Lead for Deadlands, for his top five tips for surviving this perilous realm of Oblivion.

Choose Your Path Wisely

The Deadlands is broken into two halves: the infernal Burn and the storm-marred Sever, and there are three different routes players can take to move between them. Tunnels to the north skirt the citadels of Destruction’s Solace and Ardent Hope and come with the risk of being spotted by the Order of the Waking Flame or Daedric Legions patrolling the area. The southern route is thought to be safest, or as safe as any road in the Deadlands is. As for the middle way, known to those that survive it as Ravaged Crossing, the road is desolate thanks to the storms and lumbering creatures dwelling within it.

Watch Out for Wandering Havocrel Executioners!

You’re bound to see fellow travelers as you make your way through the Deadlands. But you’re also sharing the road with Havocrel Executioners–hulking warriors that can only be felled by the most experienced players, working in unison. If you see one and aren’t prepared to take it down, then be sure to tread lightly.

Watch Out for More than Monsters, Too

Amidst the gnarled and rune-scarred flora of the Deadlands lurk Harrada Roots, waiting to ensnare travelers while Spiddal Sticks choke them on poison gas. Flame Turrets dot the landscape of the Burn and random bolts of lightning scour the land of the Sever. Be careful where you step!

Check Your Compass for Skyshards

Coming with Update 32 is a new and improved system for tracking down Skyshards! Like other map locations, you’ll see an icon show up on your compass once you’re in the general vicinity of a Skyshard – so study the hint and look for the beam of light.

Remember to Rest and Repair in Fargrave

The friendly city of Fargrave is outside the plane of the Deadlands, and is where players can access daily quests, crafting and other services that are few and far between in the Deadlands. Any veteran adventurer wandering the Domain of Destruction knows how important is to keep supplies stocked, equipment maintained, and a journal full of quests.
